Confessions of a Shopaholic — If you are a man and in a steady relationship with a woman, you will, on occasion, watch movies that you otherwise wouldn’t. Most women simply don’t want to watch Aliens every Friday night. Take the initiative and show off your equal-opportunity spirit with this Sex and the City-esque comedy based on the book by Sophie Kinsella. The story, about a bubble-brained recent college grad who goes on a credit-card shopping spree even as she lands a job writing a financial-advice column, may not whet your Y-chromosome-defined appetites, but breakout star Isla Fisher is adorable and funny enough to hold anyone’s attention. No, it isn’t Aliens. These are the sacrifices you’re going to have to make.
Waltz with Bashir — Ari Folman’s animated documentary concerns his efforts to recover his memories of the Lebanon War by interviewing his fellow veterans and a psychologist specializing in trauma. Probably not great date material, unless you’re seducing your shrink.
Pink Panther 2 — Steve Martin does his best to make us forget we ever liked him by returning for a second go-round as the bumbling Inspector Clouseau, this time attempting to stop a thief from stealing historic artifacts. If you’re hoping to get dumped, show up with this DVD and a nice box of pink wine.
Table for Three — Trying to arrange a threesome can be so awkward, or so we hear, but maybe you can pick up some tips from one-time Superman Brandon Routh, who stars in this straight-to-DVD comedy about a suddenly single guy who invites a seemingly perfect couple to share his apartment.
